SHELTER HONORS DR. V. DOUGLAS JODOIN, M.D. WITH 2010 AWARD

Shelter From The Storm’s "Unsung Hero Award" is presented annually to an individual who, without expectation of public recognition, has given generously of his time and talent to the women and children we serve.

We are delighted to salute Dr. V. Douglas Jodoinl, right, as the recipient of this year’s award.

Dr. V. Douglas Jodoin is Board Certified in Family Medicine and has lived and practiced in the Coachella Valley for the last fifteen plus years..

He was born in New York and raised in Southern California, and received his undergraduate education at Occidental College.  He graduated from Rutgers Medical School in 1978 and completed his residency at UCLA in 1981.

He then went to work with the White Mountain Apache Indians in Whiteriver, Arizona for the next three and a half years. He ran the Obstetrical and Neonatal services, and developed many outreach programs for the community to help decrease the obstetrical and neonatal morbidity and mortality.  He was eventually in addition asked to become the Director of Emergency and Out-patient services.

He then moved to Northern California and established a private practice continuing his Obstetrics and Neonatal work as well as Family Medicine.

Dr. Jodoin moved to the Coachella Valley in 1994 and established his practice at Eisenhower Medical Center.  He has served as the Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine for 3 terms and Chairman of Quality Assurance and Improvement for 2 terms.

Dr. Jodoin developed, designed, and currently volunteers his and his staff’s time for the medical clinic at The Shelter from the Storm. This facility provides much need assistance for adults and children.  He has recently been asked to join the Board of the Shelter of domestic abuse.
