SHELTER FROM THE STORM REQUEST FOR DONATIONS

PALM DESERT: July 14, 2010 –Shelter from the Storm has announced the election of three new members to its Board of Directors..

Serving two-year terms will be Mary Gilstrap, Esq., attorney at law with Roemer and Harnick LLP, Indian Wells; V. Douglas Jodoin, M.D., of Rancho Mirage, staff physician at Eisenhower Medical Center and voluntary director of Shelter from the Storm’s medical clinic; and Ron Meepos, former mayor and current councilman with the City of Rancho Mirage.

“We are delighted and privileged to have such talented, committed individuals serve on our board. They will be a strong support as we continue to meet the growing challenges of providing critically needed services to the community’s abused women and children,” said Shelter from the Storm Board President Kevin McGuire.

Shelter from the Storm serves some 2,000 women and children annually through its five valley program locations.  Key operations include a 72-bed emergency shelter with two onsite schools, substance abuse and life skills programs and a medical clinic, long-term transitional housing, a community counseling center, outreach crisis intervention centers, teen dating violence prevention and education in schools, and ongoing community awareness, education and training  programs.
